This is my final performance art project for one of my classes at VCU. For my performance I organized a “happening” on the parking deck, where all of the students in the class participated to make the piece. I typed out individual instructions for each person, and they weren’t allowed to tell each other what their role was. 16ish people were given glow sticks, and 2 people were given flashlights. I pieced together a soundtrack for the piece that played dance songs in 25 second increments, and there were instructions of what to do while each song was playing. I was standing behind the camera taking 25 second exposures of what happened during each song, so each of these pictures captured the movements of the lights. Seeing it all play out was cool because nobody really knew what they were doing and why (which is usually the nature of happenings), so it was partly supposed to be the experience for the participants making the piece, but also the finished documentation.
experimenting with long exposures for my “light happening” during class work time. the location was farther than I remembered and the statue only has a small sidewalk encircling it, so I might have to look into more location options.
